Song Lyrics

Here are all the lyrics, in order, from my album Oddly Suspicious. The songs were all written within a 7 year period leading up to the 2004 release of the album. I worked with a number of very talented musicians, and the producer on my album was exceptional.

1. Oddly Suspicious
c. Suzanne 2002

CHORUS:
It’s oddly suspicious
Oddly suspicious
Like – ponsi schemes

How can I explain this logic?
Each step leads to it’s
Obvious conclusion

I wrote it all down
Each small step
So there’s your answer – Right there

CHORUS:
Like – work from home

She says that there is no problem
I’ll say this, there’s
Obvious confusion

She believes in
All these schemes
So there’s your answer – Right there

CHORUS:
Like – protein diets

BRIDGE
Oddly suspicious, illogical
Oddly suspicious, lost all site of math
Oddly suspicious, a few steps missing

SOLO

I can’t start to solve her problems
I have come to this
Obvious conclusion

If there’s no logic
There’s no way
So there’s your answer – Right there

CHORUS:
Like – pyramid schemes, chain mail, etc…

2. More ‘n’ More

c. Suzanne 2002

When I go shopping
I don’t need much
Just a few things on my list

When I start talking
I don’t want much
Don’t be my analyst

When I wake up
I’m usually contented
With the day that lies ahead

But lately I’ve been wanting something – More ‘n’ More

CHORUS
I want to love you More ‘n’ More
More ‘n’ More
I’m a simple girl
Until I see you
More ‘n’ More

When I am working
I don’t need much
Just a coffee at my break

When I go drinking
I don’t drink much
I just like to stay out late

When I go out
I’m usually contented
With the friends that pick me up

But lately I’ve been wanting something – More ‘n’ More

CHORUS

BRIDGE
When I’m with you
Something pulls me
Closer ‘n’ closer to you
The energy
Between you and me
Makes me want to scream!

CHORUS

3. Don’t Expect Much
c. Suzanne 2002

These are such amazing times
Always changing
Always surprise

Notice all the little things
Have a good laugh
You’ll find your way

Be safe, be wise, be free

CHORUS
My father tells me
Don’t Expect Much
You’ll be happy
Don’t Expect Much
You’ll be happy

Isn’t life incredible?
How you wake up
In a new day

Mystery lies ahead of you
Don’t be frightened
You’ll find your way

Be safe, be wise, be free

CHORUS

Those small things that worry you
Will not matter
Years from today

Do your best to keep your cool
Keep it simple
You’ll find your way

BRIDGE

Try to always reach for the stars
Listen, learn and imagine
If you’re not content
You’ll need a reminder

CHORUS

SOLO

Father’s often quiet when
He is listening
He understands

Though I’m not expecting much
He respects me
I trust him and

He’s safe, he’s wise, he’s free

CHORUS (alt)
And when he tells me
Don’t expect much
You’ll be happy
Then I’m happy
I am happy

4. Love at First Laugh
c. Suzanne and David R 2003

MUSICAL INTERLUDE

I arrived at my job that summer
I found my room and walked to the lake
It was calm as the trees
I thought this is going to be the
Best summer of my life

I found my way to the lunch room
I sat at the end of a very long bench
I said hello and laughed loudly
That’s when he heard me and thought it’s going to be the
Best summer of my life

CHORUS
Love at first laugh
Across the lunch room
Love at first laugh
Who would have thought that
This love would last
From that laugh on

Late that night he came and found me
We talked for hours and he reached for my hand
He said, “How’d this happen so easily?”
I squeezed his hand and said it’s the
Best summer of my life

CHORUS

BRIDGE
Summer romance
All our laughter
The tingling when we touched each other

MUSICAL INTERLUDE

We worked side by side that summer
We sang and hiked whenever we could
Goodbyes we hoped were temporary
Knowing this was the very
Best summer of our lives

CHORUS

It was the best summer of my life

5. Melt Away
c. Suzanne 1998

Suffering strengthens you
Tear my heart, wrench it out
Suffering strengthens me
Kiss you and say goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

CHORUS
Burning love we share
Push you out. Leave.
No. Melt Away.

Waiting alone for you
Screaming out in the dark
Missing each touch I fear
Kisses like breath, I’m soaring, soaring, soaring, soaring

CHORUS

SOLO

BRIDGE
Cross my soul, I forgive you
In my heart, I repent
I’ll always love you

Strip me and take me down
Bear my soul you alone
I do not understand
Why is this love that shatters, shatters, shatters, shatters

CHORUS

Melt away, away, away, away.

6. Save Me From Myself

c. Suzanne 2000

I’m gonna give up all my sins today
I’m gonna toss them all away
I’m gonna get down on my knees and find
That strength that’s mine to stay

Who are you Lord I’m calling to?
Tell me, tell me who?
I’ve got this feeling in my soul
That I’m a part of you.

CHORUS
Save me from myself Lord
Save me Lord I pray
Save me from myself Lord
And I won’t go astray

Can you forget my little sins
And help me through my fears
Be there when I need you most
And melt away my tears

Who are you Lord I’m talking to?
Lord, I wish I knew
Somehow I can sense your strength
And I believe in you.

CHORUS

BRIDGE
Save me, Save me, Save me
With my self-control
Save me, Save me, Save me
Got to save my soul

SOLO

CHORUS

BRIDGE out

7. One Voice
c. Suzanne and Juliane Crump 1997

Ready to perform
The calm before the storm
Then I lose myself and dive into song
Such momentum building that I feel I’m rising, rising

CHORUS
Ah….
I feel the power
And I can sense my surrender
Lost within three hundred voices
How am I to find my own –
One Voice

Feet are on the ground but
Head is in the sound
What a lovely way to leave lies behind
Daily life evaporates I feel I’m gliding, gliding

CHORUS

Mahler choir break

BRIDGE
Music pours down on me
Symphony for a thousand
Caught in the torrent, wave this storm along

When the night is done
I’m smiling, warm and numb
And it’s very strange to be all alone
My one voice is silent and I feel I’m sliding, sliding

CHORUS

One voice, one voice, one voice…

8. What would you do?

c. Suzanne 2001

I’m discovering what I would do
If I had the time
Exploring my mind
And I admit I’m watching you

CHORUS
What would you do if you were not afraid?
What would you do if you were not alone?
Tell me
What would you do if you had the time?
What would you do if you had only known?
Tell me

How is it that we
Take you by surprise
And finding our way
Never is easy as you’d like

CHORUS

BRIDGE
We’re thrown surprises
It’s unavoidable
Little choices
All these choices that you make lead to
Changes
If you falter, if you fall
I’ll be with you through it all
I watch you changing
Changing

What would you do?

9. A Crush

c. Suzanne 2000

A crush
You make me smile
Imagine you by my side
You’re my type
I won’t let attraction be denied

A crush
I sense you near
And I’m highly aware
How you move
And how much I want to see you stare

CHORUS
I fantasize
(A crush a crush a crush)
You tantalize
(A crush a crush a crush)
All that energy
Bring it home with me
(A crush a crush a crush)
Yeah

A crush
You walk my way
Then you pass right on by
That was cool how
You gave me one amazing “Hi!”

CHORUS

SOLO

CHORUS

A crush
And life goes on
Your image always the same
I don’t even know if I
Want to know your name

10. Boring Talk
c. Suzanne 2002

I called just to say hello
I love you
You tell me about your trip
To the grocery store

I called just to say hello
I need some money
You tell me about your friend’s
Sick granddaughter – who I never met

CHORUS
Listen to what you’re saying
You’re talking Boring Talk
If you ever want anyone to listen
You’ll have to STOP – that Boring Talk

I called just to say hello
I’ve been busy
You tell me about your new
Medication

I called just to say hello
I’ve got problems
You tell me about your finds
At the thrift shop – not more junk!

CHORUS

BRIDGE
This is the problem –
I can’t have a decent conversation with you any more

I called just to say hello
I need you
You tell me how your needs
Are never met

I called just to say hello
I’m family
You tell me how the family’s not
Calling you enough – hello!

CHORUS

I called just to say hello
I love you

11. You Take Too Much
c. Suzanne 2001

I love how you love me
I’m into that
I love how I fall asleep
On your shoulder

I love how you listen
I’m into that
I love sharing stories with you
Every evening

Why do you have to peer into my dark side?

CHORUS
You give me everything I want
But You Take Too Much
You give me everything I want
But You Take Too Much
Got to save a little bit of me for me

I love all the romance
I’m into that
I love how I’m finding you
In my daydreams

I love you call me
I’m into that
I love how I always know that
I can call you

Why do you have to peer into my dark side?

CHORUS

BRIDGE
You always ask
What do you want?
What do you want?
That’s a question that’s
So hard to answer clearly
I think the closest explanation is
Stop asking questions
Just let me be

SOLO

CHORUS (alt)

Just let me be me

12. I Hate Bass
c. Suzanne 2000

What is a song without melody?
What is a beat without drum?
Of all the things you bang or strum
What could be dumber than bass?

There are cool looking instruments
With a lot of appeal
I don’t get it – what’s the deal?
With the electric bass

CHORUS
You can’t have a sing-along
You can’t recognize a song
Who cares about ’em
I’d live without ’em
I hate bass
I hate bass

Somebody said I can’t have a band
Without finding a bass
There aren’t any anyplace
So what was I supposed to do?

BRIDGE
Well I have to pay my bassist
Have to pay my bassist
Have to pay my bassist
Have to pay my bassist
Everybody else is a part of my band

CHORUS

I hate bass….

13. Got my Shit Together
c. Suzanne 2001

CHORUS
Got my shit together
More than fine
Got my shit together
Drinkin’ wine
Got my shit together
Gonna lay it on the line for me baby?
Wait and see
What I can do for you.

Want to be wanted
Want to be free
You seem like
You need me
One night a week
That’s all I ask for
From each one, two, three, four…

CHORUS

I can’t be hassled
Can’t be mean
There’s more to me
Than there seems
Gotta hold back
Till I’ve won you
Won you, two, three, four…

BRIDGE
Don’t be hurt now, baby
Don’t take it personally
I want your body close to me
I just need to be free
… or shall I say – expensive

SOLO

CHORUS

What can I do for you?
What can I do for you?
Got my shit together.

14. Grooving in the Sound

c. Suzanne 2000

Reaching for the music
Everybody’s grooving in the sound
Reaching for each other
They swing round and round

Watching from the corner
All alone, I’m grooving in the sound
Watching all the others
They swing round and round

CHORUS
I do what I want,
Swing when I want
Be who I am

I like what I see
Like being me
Who I am

Movin’ to the rhythm
Everybody’s grooving in the sound
Moving with each other
They swing round and round

Not so long ago when
All my friends were grooving in the sound
I would have to join them
I’d swing round and round, BUT now

CHORUS

SOLO

Leaving it behind
I close the door it’s quiet, not a sound
I am going home,
It’s peaceful, all around

Spinning on the dance floor
Everybody’s grooving in the sound
Spinning towards each other
They swing round and round

CHORUS
