What the Other Mothers Know

What the Other Mothers Know by Michele Gendelman, Ilene Graff, and Donna Rosenstein

One of a mom’s great resources is other moms.  It’s not always clear what you need to know as a mom.  Even if you have other mom friends, what do you ask?

This is a friendly collection of mom wisdom that makes me smile to read.  Interesting tidbits:

  • A child’s first day of pre- or nursery school is a momentous occasion, second in significance only to birth.
  • Most of what kids learn in preschool is how to deal with other kids.
  • One preschool director commented that the single biggest problem she sees among her students is being overscheduled.
  • These are tough years, the twos and threes.  Use this stage to really learn how to parent:  to be consistent, fair, and dependable.  It’s the best way to lay the groundwork for your children to feel safe about coming to you with whatever big problems may arise.

The best way to return the favor to the other moms is to become an “other mother” yourself!
