Modern Quilter Tote Swap

This summer I joined a quilter swap where you make a tote bag for another quilter, and someone else makes one for you. I decided last minute to join it since I have very limited tote making experience. In fact I had never made a tote. But I am so glad that I did because it turned out to be quite a fun experience. I really enjoyed watching everyone’s totes come together in our little Flickr group. I got my act together and mine went out on time, I used a pattern that proved to be very well written. The plan was to make myself a tote first so I would know what I’m doing, and then make the one to mail to my partner. Needless to say that did not happen, but I am pleased with how the tote turned out. It’s simple, but has boxy corners and a pocket, two features I’d never made before. It’s a nice size too for throwing over your shoulder. I must make myself one now!

Unfortunately my tote does not stand on its own, despite the interfacing layer, so it did not photograph super well.

Here’s what the pocket looks like. I really like the fabric that I used for the strap and pocket.

I received my bag in the mail today, so fun. My partner is a far more experienced bag maker, and I am blown away by the detail in her bag plus all of the extras. Thank you! I’m really enjoying being a part of the larger quilting community. They are a talented and generous bunch!
